Festival Season

Forget Rhinebeck or any of those fancy shows down in the States. I'm making my own fun here with a couple of local shows that have run in the past couple of weeks.

Just this weekend the Ottawa Spinners and Weavers Guild had their annual exhibition and sale and it was beautiful. There were not alot of vendors but I walked away with what I think is a pretty good deal!

This is a rather large carded batt of mixed fibre (lamma, alpaca, mohair, and wool) that weighs in at just under a pound and was mine for a very reasonable $25. The BF has already claimed the first spinnings for a winter hat.

The show was great and had alot of people showing their craft rather than trying to sell. I wish there had been a little more fibre for sale but I think I was too late in the day (I was there right at the end of the second day of the show - there was one more day to go and I wonder what was left for the Sunday visitors.

The other show was the Inspirations Needlecraft Show that ran last weekend. There was a large emphasis on sewing at this thing and there was a very minimal amount of fibre to be had (a doll maker had some wool that she used for needle felting but that was about it). The woman who runs the store that made the donation to my school group was there and I couldn't help giving her some of my money and I found some rather non-commercial lace weight and fingering from Headwater Wool which I am fond of. Here is the "class shot"

On the left is the red laceweight and the sage green fingering from Headwater. On the right is the haul from WoolNThings. There are two skeins of Fleece Artist sock (one for BF one for me) and the prize of the night. A skein of Lady Godiva from Hand Maiden it is a 50/50 silk wool blend and it is softer than anyone could imagine. It has already been worked up into a scarf for my grandmother for Xmas (blue is her favourite colour). I just picked an interesting stitch from Barbara Walker and went to town - this is the end result.

I am absoluetly in love with this scarf. I have to keep reminding myself how much Grandma will love it too so that I actually keep it for her rather than for myself.

The last amazing this was that my lovely BF offered to go halfsies on a wheel for my as my Xmas present. It's too much for either of us to afford on our own but he will cover half the cost. I am so excited to start looking for a wheel but I have to remind myself that there's no way I'll have time to use it before my Xmas break so I must be paitient.
